What is Sudoku?
It is a mind game and a puzzle that you solve with reasoning and logic. Fill in the grid with digits in such a manner that every row, every column and every 3x3 box accommodates the digits 1 to 9, without repeating any. The solution to yesterday’s puzzle is also given.
Evolution of Sudoku:
On July 6, 1895 a French newspaper called La France released a number game similar to this modern day Sudoku.
For about a decade the French newspaper L'Echo de Paris published Sudoku weekly till the onset of World War 1.
But it is considered that the modern day is designed by Howard Garns of USA. He first published it in Dell magazines. His age was 74 by the time of his invention. He was a retired architect and freelance puzzle constructor by that time.
Later the puzzle was popularized in 1986 by the Japanese puzzle company Nikoli, under the name Sudoku, meaning single number. It became an international hit in 2005.
And from 2006 World Sudoku Competition has been started. It will conducted once in a year from then on.

9. Wei-Hwa Huang (USA) - (0 G, 0 S, 1 B)
10. Peter Hudak (Slovakia) - (0 G, 0 S, 1 B)
11. Robert Babilon (Czech) - (0 G, 0 S, 1 B)
12. Tiit Vunk (Estonia) - (0 G, 0 S, 1 B)
And in team events, the best performing nations are

The nations conducted the events so far are Italy - 2006, Czech Republic - 2007, India - 2008, Slovakia - 2009, USA - 2010, Hungary - 2011, Croatia - 2012.
The next events are planned to be conducted in China( Oct 12 to 19, 2013) and UK(2014).
